I'm an ecosocialist, gardener, and mathematician currently living in the Boston area. I grew up gardening but don't have much systematic training or theoretical knowledge about it.
Favorite Crops & Least Favorite Crops
Most of my experience is with commonly grown annual vegetables and herbs—tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, basil, squash, beans, peas, etc.—as well as various perennial flowers. I'm currently trying to grow a garden consisting mostly of perennial vegetables for the first time.
A bed or two (11-40 sq. ft)
USDA Web Soil Survey classifies it as "Urban land, wet substratum, 0 to 3 percent slopes".
Recent soil test results show a soil pH of 6.6, adequate nutrients (with some excess of P, Ca, and Mg), and soil organic matter content of 9.1%.
Possible GMOs in the neighborhood...
Other relevant information
I'm growing plants in a community garden plot, so there's a wide variety of other plants being grown in the immediate vicinity.
